Saludos a toda la comunidad artística de Tacoma,
As we begin Welcoming Week, I’m very excited to share that Tacoma Arts Live is producing an amazing program centered on stories of arrival relating to both immigration and migration.
Migrations, Forced & Chosen - Tacoma Arts Live
Thursday, September 18
Friday, September 19
7:30 pm
Tacoma Armory
1001 Yakima Ave S
Program Description:
Migrations, Forced & Chosen, is part of our groundbreaking series,
The Lemon Sessions, which combines immersive projections of visual art combined with live music, dance and spoken word.
With the exception of the First Peoples of the Salish Sea and east of the Cascades, everyone in Washington is connected to a migration story. Some of us have ancestors who came by ship, wagon,
rail or air long ago, while others arrived recently. At a time when increased scapegoating and stereotypes of migrants have accelerated, we will witness our own familial stories of migration reflected in the work of dynamic Washington visual and performing
artists, who examine recent and ancestral roots in Africa and the Black Diaspora, the Andes, the British Isles, Cambodia, China, Cuba, El Salvador, Germany, India, Iran, Italy, Mexico, the Philippines, and Spain.
A rotating cast including Americana roots master Ben Hunter, Duo
Takinai, Trío Guadalevín, Rogelio Rigor, Marisela & Alejandro Fleites and recent Washington Poet Laureate Claudia
Castro-Luna offer music, dance and spoken word set before animated projections by celebrated visual artists Fulgencio Lazo, Deepti Agrawal and Saiyare Refaei, and hosted by Silong Chhun.
