City of Tacoma’s Solid Waste Management team will host a GreenSheen paint recycling event on Saturday, April 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Tacoma Recovery and Transfer Center<https://tacoma.gov/event/free-paint-recycling-event/>! People interested in attending are encouraged to register for the event in advance to reserve their preferred drop-off time: circular.eco/event/tacoma26<https://circular.eco/event/tacoma26> [cid:image001.jpg@01DCB6CB.7F41FE80] This event is open to the public. Community members can drop-off an unlimited amount of accepted paint materials for free and responsible recycling. Paint materials must be contained in 5-gallon containers or smaller. Accepted materials include latex and oil-based paint, stains, shellacs, lacquers, sealers, varnishes, and urethanes – see more details below. ✅ YES: We Accept These ❌ NO: We Cannot Accept These* House Paint: Interior and exterior (Latex, Oil-based, Enamel). Deck & Floor: Deck stains, floor paints, and slip-resistant coatings. Preparation: Primers, sealers, and undercoatings Wood Finishes: Stains, varnishes, shellacs, and lacquers (single-part only). Waterproofing: Clear sealers for wood, concrete, or masonry (like Thompson's). Metal: Rust-preventative paints and metal coatings. Sports Fields: Paint used for grass/lawns or sports fields. Construction Materials: Stucco, grout, plaster, joint compound, and cement-based products. Aerosols: Anything in a spray can. Chemicals: Paint thinners, mineral spirits, solvents, and deck cleaners. Sticky Stuff: Glues, caulking, adhesives, epoxies, and 2-part resins. Vehicles: Auto paint and marine (boat) paint. Roofing: Tar, asphalt, bitumen-based sealers, or roof patch/repair. Industrial: Road-marking paint or heavy industrial coatings. Small Projects: Tiny bottles of craft or art paint. *Some of these items may be dropped off for safe disposal at the Household Hazardous Waste Center (3510 S Mullen Street, Tacoma, WA).
