"Blue Turban", oil/panel, 12x16, by David Gray Greetings Tacoma Art Folk, Update:Beginning in June I will be sharing a fairly large studio space with artist and teacher Tim Mansen (former student of Juliette Aristides) in the Dome District of Tacoma. 301 Puyallup Ave. Tacoma, WA 98421 The entrance to the studio is actually in back of the building. To access it walk around to the back via East C Street. We will have signs posted on the street to help point you in the right direction. It's a great location with adequate street parking and controlled light. The only windows in the space are quite large and face north (yay!) so we will have no issue with fighting sunlight.Demo Announcement!: I will be demonstrating a portrait study from start to finish on Tuesday nights (June 30, Aug 6, 13, 20) from 6-9 PM. $20 per person at the door each night. I will be working from a live model and be explaining each step as I go. Come and observe. Questions welcome. Proceeds to help us with getting our new space up and running. Class Announcements: Tuesdays 6-9 PM, Sept 10 - Nov 19 (ten weeks -- no class Sept 29)Portrait Study I (PS1), Cost: $250.00This is the first in a sequence of three classes which will give the student the tools to tackle that most daunting of subjects -- the human head. Rather than calling this a portrait class, I've opted to call it a portrait study class, as we will not be concerned with depicting the head in context of formal portraiture, but as a three dimensional form. In Portrait Study I, drawing materials will be our primary media. Once satisfactorily completed the student will have the option to participate in Portrait Study II (monochrome oil paint) and Portrait Study III (full color palette oil paint). Tuesdays 6-9 PM, Jan 7 - March 11 (ten weeks)Portrait Study II (PS2), Cost: $250.00With satisfactory completion of Portrait Study I, or instructor approval, the student will learn to apply lessons learned in PS1 through the medium of monochrome oil paint. Paint handling and understanding value relationships will be the focus of this class. Tuesdays 6-9 PM, April 8 - June 10 (ten weeks)Portrait Study III (PS3), Cost: $250.00With satisfactory completion of Portrait Study II, or instructor approval, the student will continue their understanding of the head form through full color palette oil paint. Paint mixing, basic color theory and refined paint handling will be the focus of this class.
