City Council Appoints Inaugural Tacoma Creates Advisory Board

Tacoma Creates is excited to announce the appointments of twelve Tacoma residents to the inaugural Tacoma Creates Advisory Board!

City Council Appoints Inaugural Tacoma Creates Advisory Board
TACOMA, Wash. -- Twelve Tacoma residents were appointed to the inaugural Tacoma Creates Advisory Board by Tacoma City Council. The primary responsibility of the board is to help Tacoma Creates staff ensure compliance to program and accountability standards. The board also advises the Office of Arts & Cultural Vitality to guide program development and approve funding recommendations for the benefit of all residents of Tacoma.

Eleven individuals were recommended by the Economic Development Committee after conducting interviews with applicants, and the Youth position was selected by the Mayor's Youth Commission.

"There was an extraordinary response from experienced community members interested in serving on the board this inaugural year," said Lisa Jaret, Program Manager for Tacoma Creates. "The varied perspectives and backgrounds of these individuals from throughout Tacoma provides Tacoma  Creates a strong foundation to fulfill its vision to enrich the community."

The following appointees make up the Tacoma Creates Advisory Board:

  •   Putter Bert, Council District 2 position
    
  •   Megan Clark, Council District 5 position
    
  •   Sheree Cooks, Council District 4 position
    
  •   Amanda Figueroa, Science position
    
  •   Jason Gamboa, Heritage position
    
  •   Roxane Hreha, Public Education position
    
  •   Michael "Tony" Hudson, Culture position
    
  •   Connar Mon, Youth position
    
  •   Dominica Myers, Council District 3 position
    
  •   Liesl Santkuyl, Council District 1 position
    
  •   Davon White, Community Engagement position
    

Tacoma Creates is a voter-approved initiative to increase access to arts, culture, heritage, and science experiences by reducing barriers to access and expanding offerings, particularly for underserved youth. Contracts totaling near $2 million have been awarded to 58 organizations during this initial year. The organizations' work includes public programming for all ages, youth education programs and a commitment to equitable and inclusive access.

The first Tacoma Creates Advisory Board meeting will be held on Monday, October 5 from 5:30 - 7:30 pm via Zoom. All meetings are open to the public. More information about Tacoma Creates is available at cityoftacoma.org/tacomacreates.
