For May, we’re taking a trip back to 1981 to dance to Billy Idol’s version
of Mony Mony. (which does not in fact mean “money”)
In addition to any 80’s gear you might want to wear, does anyone have a
pony? Because “ride the pony” features prominently in the lyrics
(carousel.. stick horse?)
Submissions open Wednesday, April 14th and will be accepted through
Wednesday, April 28th at 5:00 PM Pacific time Please consider submitting
early. The earlier the better! Seriously, not only is it less stressful
for me when submissions trickle in instead of being dumped at one time at
the last minute, I use short snippets to promote the project.
Feel free to dance solo, as a couple, or gather a group together (safely
distanced of course). Have pets, kids, or livestock? (or in the case of
one participant, a rubber chicken) Include them in the fun as well.
Non-dancers are especially encouraged. This is about having something fun
to do that shares joy. Participants of all ages, shapes, sizes, and
abilities are welcome. and wholeheartedly wanted! Use a walker, wheelchair
or scooter? We would love to have you participate.
Normally, I'm happy to come to dance with and/or video people, but I am
going into the hospital tomorrow for surgery to determine the stage and
severity of cancer that appears to have gotten into some lymph nodes, and
I'll be in a very painful recovery (this surgery is not the cure, it's for
diagnostic purposes and is going to increase an already nearly unbearable
amount of pain I've been in) If I choose to accept treatment for this, it's
a brutal combination of radiation and chemotherapy given concurrently,
every day for 4 - 7 weeks. From what I've read in support groups, I'd be
bedridden for a good portion of that and beyond.I'm asking folks to get
their videos in as early as possible. I'm not going to have the energy to
deal with them all at once, nor will I have the energy to remind people.
Please make sure to dance to different portions of the song, not just the
chorus. There are a lot of rhythm changes in this one and we need to cover
all of them. Also, I’d like to get everyone to do as big of a jump as they
can (the lower the camera is to the ground pointing up at you the more
impressive it will look) because I have a fun idea I want to try with those
shots.
I’ll need at least 30 seconds for editing purposes (each person usually
gets about 11-22 seconds or so) but feel free to dance the whole thing.
It’s helpful if you do not mouth the words because it looks funny if
everyone is singing the chorus and they’re shown in different parts of the
video mouthing the wrong words.
Please shoot your video horizontally (wide/landscape) not vertically
(portrait/phone up and down)
