Below is a plea from Julie Ziegler, the Executive Director of Humanities Washingtonhttp://www.humanities.org:
Proposed Cuts by the House of Representatives Would Slash Funding for the National Endowment for the Humanities in Half! On Tuesday, members of the U.S. House of Representatives proposed to cut funding for the National Endowment for the Humanities and the National Endowment for the Arts by 49%.
These cuts would have a dramatic impact on the vitality of our state's cultural community and are significantly larger than cuts proposed to other federal programs.
If implemented, hundreds of thousands of people across Washington state will lose cultural programs that promote our history and heritage, spark conversation and new ideas, and create more informed and engaged communities. At current funding levels, the NEH costs each citizen barely more than the price of a postage stamp.
The Senate is preparing its budget now, and there is still time to make your voice heard!
Please contact Sen. Patty Murray today and ask her to support funding of $154 million for the NEH - including $44 million for the Federal/ State Partnership - a portion of which is directed to Washington state.
Please pass this on to others who are passionate about cultural programs!
