Lakewold Gardens, Lakewood, WA
This is an invitation to celebrate the Music from Home concert series as it comes to an end. For five years the series has been a unique niche among music offerings in our area. Spearheaded by Lakewold's first Curator of Art and Music, Joe Williams and continued by the present Curator, Ricardo de la Torre, the series presented many artists of distinction, who consistently displayed a superb level of musicianship while bringing to the fore music and composers who had stayed in the margins of the classical music canon, alongside well-established works in a casual and intimate setting.
While the series will be discontinued, music and the arts will continue to have a strong presence at Lakewold Gardens. The final concert of the series will take place Sunday, Dec. 1 at 3 pm and will feature two Portland-based musicians: Violist and composer Kenji Bunch, and pianist Monica Ohuchi. The duo will perform a program inspired by the American vernacular (think Jazz-tinged compositions and other uniquely American genres). Kenji will play some of his own works as well as music by Edward Pütz, Dobrinka Tabakova, and PNW-based composer Charles Rose. Kenji’s arrangement of Cole Porter songs will round off the afternoon.
