Scholarly Selections November: “Zero-Sum Thinking in Ancient Greek Thought” with Dr. Will Burghart https://www.washingtonhistory.org/event/scholarly-selections-march-2024-2/
Thursday, November 16, 6:00 to 7:30 PM
Scholarly Selections, a series of free talks hosted by the University of Washington Tacoma at the History Museum, features presentations by UWT professors, graduate students, and researchers on diverse topics. This month Dr. Will Burghart discusses "Zero-Sum Thinking in Ancient Greek Thought," delving into the concept of pleonexia across four centuries of classical Greek thought, examining its association with the self-destruction of communities. The talk draws parallels to contemporary issues, specifically the rise of partisanship and "zero-sum thinking" in politics and explores potential solutions by comparing insights from Greek authors with modern scholarship.
