Hello, My name is Nateli Sanderson, I am a local high school student, and a Roots & Shoots ambassador. Roots & Shoots is a youth-led action program that Dr. Jane Goodall founded as a way to empower youth to make a difference. It has now grown to be in over 75 countries. I do a lot of Roots & Shoots work in Pierce County, mainly focusing on helping the Southern Resident orcas and salmon, and I have written books about these orcas. My environmental work led me to have the honor of meeting her and spending some time with her. Meeting Dr. Jane changed my life because it made me believe that I could actually make a difference in my community. I stayed in touch with her, and she had such a big influence on my life. Now that she's passed away, I feel so hopeless, but I know that she would want us to all carry on her work and continue to fight for a more sustainable future. To honor her life and legacy, I am hosting a Goodall Day event on April 12th at the Foss Waterway Seaport. This event will be held the weekend after her birthday, on April 3rd. I hope this event will bring people together and inspire them to take action for our community. We will have speakers, live music, and then afterwards we will go outside and do a cleanup. Right now, I am trying to raise awareness about this event. I was wondering if you would please publish it in your newsletter?
