The non-profit Grand Cinema is hiring for a newly created position of *Project
Coordinator. *This rewarding full time opportunity is for someone who is
experienced, detail oriented, a creative self-starter, and has strong
writing and public speaking skills. Your outgoing personality will serve
you well as you often step in front of a crowd as the host for many of our
smaller events at the cinema. The Project Coordinator will also take the
lead in wide variety of projects as they arise. While primarily a 9:00
a.m. to 6:00 p.m. job, the successful candidate will have the flexibility
to work weekends and evenings as dictated by frequently scheduled events.
In this position you will have responsibilities in these main areas:
Event Leader
· Serve as the "Face of The Grand" at most special screenings held
at the Grand
· Prior to such events, coordinate all logistical details
associated with it
· Assist Director of Marketing in creating and distributing
materials for these events / screenings
· Serve as contact with any film guests to confirm their
attendance, test their films and facilitate their film needs
· At events, set up as needed, introduce the film and/or
filmmakers, coordinate film discussions or giveaways
· Ensure a fun atmosphere at events in accordance with the type of
film presented. This could include a pre or post-film program.
· This role will require work on some evenings and weekends
Special Projects
· Serve as the leader of various special projects as they arise
throughout the year. This could include coordination for a film series, a
membership event, a research project or really anything. The broader the
applicant's skill set, the greater variety of projects possible.
· Analyze and organize office operations and procedures to increase
efficiency and productivity
· Manage office services such as donation requests, phone system,
occasional data entry, as well as other administrative support as needed
Film Camps
· Serve as organizational lead in event planning for various
week-long filmmaking camps each year. Film camps are currently only for
youth but film classes for adults will be added in the future.
o Ensure appropriate volunteer / assistant staffing levels
o Ensure that the lead teacher and assistants meet to coordinate prior to
camps
o Handle registration, payments and camp counts
o Facilitate creation of waivers and other printed materials
o Legal and safety reviews including background check on teachers
o Film week logistics and schedule for the week
o While this position does not serve as the filmmaking teacher,
filmmaking experience could be helpful, though not required.
Writing & Design
· Generate materials needed for weekly distribution of movie times
· Using InDesign, create weekly movie ads for newspapers and
periodicals
· Create weekly fliers for distribution with movie times &
descriptions and upcoming films
· Work with Director of Marketing to assist with and edit weekly
email blasts
Marquee Events
· Assist Executive Director and other staff in implementation of
The Grand's key annual events
o Academy Awards Party - Late February or early March annually
o 72 Hour Competition - early May
o 25 New Faces of Independent Film - August
o Tacoma Film Festival - October
Requirements:
· Minimum of two years of full time work experience with increasing
levels of responsibility and independence.
· Confidence and ease at public speaking.
· Strong writing ability.
· Familiarity with independent or art-house film.
· A self-starter, accountable for meeting deadlines and managing
own time and tasks.
Salary range: $32,500 - $35,000 DOE
About the Grand Cinema
The Grand Cinema http://www.grandcinema.com/ is a non-profit four screen
cinema founded in 1997. It is Tacoma's only first run movie theater and
specializes in independent films that often don't play anywhere else in the
Pierce County. The Grand also promotes local filmmakers through filmmaking
competitions, youth film camps and The Tacoma Film Festival. It seeks to
be a community gathering spot that initiates conversation around not only
the film itself, but also the topics represented in the various films that
screen there.
