Tacoma, WA — On Wednesday, October 1, 2025, Downtown On the Go (DOTG), in partnership with UW Tacoma, invites the community to join in transforming downtown streets into lively, people-focused places during Park(ing) Day.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., spaces along 1900 S. Jefferson Avenue and the Prairie Line Trail on the UW Tacoma Campus will be converted into creative, temporary “parklets” designed by local businesses, organizations, schools, and residents. These imaginative installations encourage everyone to rethink how we use our public space — and spark new ideas for building a connected, people-friendly city.

Now celebrated in cities worldwide, Park(ing) Day began in San Francisco in 2005 as a grassroots experiment. In Tacoma, the event has grown into a beloved tradition where creativity and community come together, with past parklets featuring everything from outdoor classrooms and interactive art to mini-bike polo courts and urban gardens.

How to Get Involved
DOTG invites community members, artists, businesses, schools, and organizations to design and host a parklet. Whether it’s a place to relax, create, play, or learn, your parklet can help bring a fresh perspective to downtown.
