Hello Tacoma Artists! My name is Kayla Hoots and I am a local teacher at Puyallup's alternative school, Walker High School. We work with students from all over the south sound that have been disenfranchised by the school system by reimagining how to teach students in a more hands-on way, specifically through the arts. Students are working to answer the question: "How does public art inspire and build community?" through a mural project this spring. This is where you come in! We are looking for local artists willing to donate a small amount of their time to share their expertise, artistic background & process with our students as they develop their mural ideas. Our hope is that you can come into school one day (for just a class period or all three!) the week of April 22. Refreshments will be provided. If you're interested in being even more involved, we'd also love to have you on our panel for student pitches of their own mural designs the week of May 21st! We'd even love to have you come during the painting of the mural as well, you're invited be as involved or not involved as you'd like.
