ART OPPORTUNITY
Design and build Trojan Horse
Application deadline: Monday, June 11th 2013, 5 p.m.
Award amount: $1500
Completed Horse needs to ready to debut at Art on the Ave – Festival, July 14th.
The team who brings you First Night Tacoma is looking for an Artist/Artisan to create our “Trojan
Horse” which will be featured at festivals throughout the summer and play the major part in this
year’s First Night Tacoma celebration parade and end-of year spectacular.
ARTISTS CALL
Create the Trojan Horse for First Night Tacoma 2014
Seeking Artist or Artisan team with ability to design and fabricate on a tight timeline.
The Trojan Horse will need to be able to be transported and should contain wheels.
The Trojan Horse will be setup, struck and reassembled at various venues throughout the year,
The Trojan Horse needs to be able to withstand inclement weather and to be stored after
usage.
The Trojan Horse will be designed to have people inside, exact specs to be determined.

We are looking for a celebration artist who will bring design skills, thoughtful intention, deep
attention to detail and craftsmanship to their art. First Night Tacoma believes art and art-making
should be a part of everyone's life.
The primary goal of the First Night Tacoma celebration is to foster the public’s appreciation of
the dynamic power of visual and performing arts through an innovative, diverse and high
quality New Year’s Eve program which provides a shared cultural experience, accessible and
affordable to all.
First Night Tacoma is the signature community event of Tacoma & Pierce County.
We celebrate the New Year through profound street theater, public spectacle, and
a kaleidoscope of joyous human expressions and we welcome the participation of everyone.
GRANT FUNDS:
Grant funds may be used for artists' fees, materials and supplies, equipment purchase or rental,
travel and transportation. Existing artwork can be re-mounted for exhibition. Grant funds may
NOT be used to stage fundraising events; for project expenses that occur prior to or after the
project dates; or for operating costs not directly associated with the First Night Tacoma art grant
project.
SELECTION:
Applications will be reviewed by a committee composed of First Night Tacoma board members &
staff. This is an open process and, unfortunately, not every applicant will receive funding.
Special consideration will be given to:
• Use of repurposed materials
• Use of pedal powered design
• Directly engaging the audience
• Kinetic movement
• Thought-provoking and innovative ensembles

provide:
• Sketches: A picture is worth a thousand words. Sketches of your ideas are helpful for
the selection committee.
• Budget: Please include estimated costs/expenditures for your project.
• Examples: digital images, may be submitted by email. Please consider reducing the
size of any electronically sent files.
• Resume or bios of key artistic personnel (again, please be brief)
