Urban Alchemy
We are looking Artists who create upscale fine art and home decor
using ceramics,
wood, or blown glass as a medium.
The mission of Urban Alchemy is to feature local artists' works in a
fresh, urban setting. We carry unique fine art, handmade goods and home
décor.
We have two levels of membership available:
Premium Membership includes:
- Wall and Floor space (shelf)
- up to 30 prints on the floor (as well as up to 50 cards)
- up to 8 pieces on the wall (this varies with the size of the pieces, but
up to 8 if the piece were about 16x20")
- eligibility to participate as Artist of the Month w/ an option of window
installation that month (as well as have an artist opening that month)
- $300 for a 3 month contract ($100 per month)
- 70/30 commission split (70% to artist)
Basic Membership includes:
- Floor space (shelf)
- up to 15 prints (as well as up to 25 cards)
- shelf space measuring 1.5x2 feet
- shelf pieces must fit inside the shelf size restrictions
- $105 for a 3 month contract ($35 a month)
- 70/30 commission split (70% to artist)
.
Contracts are for three months, and may be renewed every three months as
desired.
what the artist gets: premium wall space in a great location, advertising
and promotion, and a warm, engaging professional talking your work up to
the customers.
what you don't get: hassle. there are no meetings to attend, no having
to work in the gallery, no hanging dates, no commitment other than to make
sure the gallery has enough of your work to display. (if you don't have
work to replace the sold pieces or can't get in right away to drop off new
stuff, items will be rearranged on the walls to cover the space so the
gallery will look nice until you have a chance to bring something in.)
I suspect some people are thinking, "why should I have to pay anything to
hang my stuff in a gallery?" As you know, most galleries don't last very
long in Tacoma.(or anywhere else for that matter.) The money from the
artist fees goes directly to paying rent and paying staff to be there in
the store effectively promoting your work and dreaming up great ideas to
get people into the gallery. The artist fees stabilize the business, making
it much more likely that it will have a long life. Long life means that
artists have a chance to develop clientele and grow their business.
