Spaceworks Tacoma Announces Two October Events

TACOMA, Wash. -
Spaceworks Tacoma is excited to announce two upcoming events to be held on Thursday, October 17. Currently nine Spaceworks' Artscapes projects are on exhibit 24/7 in downtown Tacoma from September through December. But on Third Thursday in October, two artists will bring their Artscapes project sites to life! Priscilla Dobler will be performing live and in person in her Woolworth Window at 11th and Commerce and Scott Scoggin will host a pop-up gallery in the Old Post Office at 11th and A Street. Scott Scoggin will open a pop-up gallery for a day at the Old Post Office (lobby) on October 17th. He will exhibit his limited edition silkscreened prints, a couple paper sculptures and other visual items. Scott will be there all day long, and things will really get going when Kye Alfred Hillig plays in the evening scheduled for around 7:30. Snacks and refreshments will be provided and casual attire is encouraged.
Scott's event and exhibition is made possible by: Tacoma Artists Initiative Program (TAIP), Spaceworks Tacoma, A Street Associates LLC, Pat Rhodes and Power Property Consultants, John Hunt.

5-day continuous performance, artist present day/night
Woolworth Window at 11th & Commerce
A simple stark white installation will be transformed with color by Priscilla Dobler during this 5-day continuous performance, all day and night, with her floor loom and colorful cotton threads. The woven pieces she creates during this performance will be given away to the homeless, available for sale to passersby, or left in the window for the remainder of the exhibition. Priscilla is especially excited to participate in the October Third Thursday Artwalk.

From Vacancy to Vitality! Spaceworks Tacoma is a joint initiative of the City of Tacoma and the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce designed to activate empty storefronts in Tacoma. The initiative makes no- and low-cost temporary space, training, and technical assistance available to artists, creative entrepreneurs, organizations, and community groups in order to nurture successful projects that transform Tacoma into a stronger, more active city. Since starting in July, 2010, Spaceworks has worked with over 100 artists or artist teams in 24 spaces around downtown Tacoma.
