October 10, 2013 * 3:30 - 5:00 p.m.
Open Archives Area * Collins Memorial Library
University of Puget Sound

Carletta Carrington Wilson will be discussing her work book of the bound
as well as doing a poetry reading.

"The works in the series, book of the bound, explore cloth's intricate and complex meanings as they pertain to the 17th century transatlantic trade in slaves. Cloth mediated a language costumed, as it was, in the customs of commerce. The history of the book plays a pivotal role in the binding of language. Each book, though an ornate, colorful emblem of beauty, belies the silence it contains. Through fibered narratives, I interrogate territories of terror stories woven into the story of the cloth."

A visual and literary artist, Carletta Carrington Wilson's mixed-media collages have been described as "decorative with a message." She is a member of the Onyx Fine Arts Collective and Puget Sound Book Artists, and her works have been exhibited at the University of Puget Sound, Gallery 110, the Northwest African American Museum, Festival Sundiata, and more.
Please join us for refreshments and conversation at 3:30 p.m.
Carletta's presentation will begin at 4:00 p.m.
