Hello artists, art-lovers, and art-supporters! I would like to introduce
you to PY // Art from Parkland's Youth. This is a volunteer program in
Parkland, just outside Tacoma city limits but very close to the community.
Each year, we feature artwork from local student artists aged 11-18 in a
juried exhibition at Pacific Lutheran University. Art students from PLU
judge the artwork based on artistic merit, skill, and creativity.
This email serves three important purposes:
-
Call for entries! If you know a talented young artist aged 11-18 in
the Tacoma, Lakewood, Parkland, Spanaway, Puyallup, or surrounding Pierce
County area, we want your artwork! Submissions are due Wednesday, April 24
at Trinity Lutheran Church in Parkland (located at 121st and Park Ave,
across the street from the PLU Library). All art forms are welcome, and we
will be on hand from 7:00 - 9:00 pm Wednesday evening to help artists
prepare their artwork for gallery display.
-
Community support! This program is part of local non-profit Discover
Parkland, but everyone who makes this program happen does so voluntarily.
We fundraise to provide art supplies to our students regardless of
socieconomic status, and to cover printing costs and light refreshments for
the gallery opening. If you would like to help support young artists and
our goal to Make Parkland Beautiful, please consider donating to the cause.
We accept cash, card, or checks made out to Discover Parkland. Donations
may be mailed to Discover Parkland at 303 121st St S, Tacoma, WA 98444.
Please include "PY Arts" in the memo of the check. You may also contact
Sarah Wise (that's me) directly at wise.sarahe@gmail.com or 253-229-7393.
I'd be happy to meet with you and talk more about our program.
We also encourage and appreciate physical donations from local businesses;
if you have services or supplies, we'd love to hear from you. All
businesses donating to the cause receive special thank you on our Facebook
page (http://facebook.com/pyartshow) and may include hand-out information
at the gallery opening.
-
The gallery opening! Please join us Sunday, April 24 from 1:00-3:00 pm
at Wekell Gallery, Ingram Hall, Pacific Lutheran University for the gallery
opening. Meet our young artists, our PLU student judges, mingle with other
art-lovers, and enjoy the show! This event is FREE and open to the public,
so please come show your support for our young artists.
This is our second year running, and we plan to keep growing and making
Parkland Beautiful.
