Teaching Artist - Broadway YEAR
Position:
Teaching Artist- Broadway YEAR
The Teaching Artist- Broadway YEAR position is for Teaching Artists experienced in one or more performing arts disciplines, adept at fostering the creation of student-generated work, and well versed in the social emotional components of the arts as key in development of sense of self, empathy and negotiation skills in teens and young adults. Teaching Artists build and sustain relationships with staff at each school site as well as with Broadway Center staff and educators. Classes are taught after school at various partner district schools from September -December and January -June.
Deadline: Resumes will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, July 15, 2013; open until filled
Status: Part Time Seasonal
Salary: $25 per hour; Teaching Artists are paid for teaching time and a set amount of prep hours
Responsibilities and Qualifications:
Qualified applicants will:

Plan and implement lessons that align with Broadway YEAR curriculum. Utilize the expressive and personal context of the performing arts to challenge students to apply Broadway YEAR learning to real life experiences via practice, role playing and discussion.

Maintain attendance records of each class.
-
Work with Education Team to maintain healthy partnering relationships with school districts, schools, and other support organizations
-
Support Multicultural Artists and Diversity Performers at events and workshops
-
Facilitate programmatic evaluation measures as needed
-
Communicate verbally and/or in written form with parents via a class welcome letter, periodic updates on student progress and dissemination of showcase information, event invitations and certificates
-
Provide costume accent pieces for students' showcase pieces from existing Broadway Center stock and/or purchased the given supply budget for each class
-
Support students at culminating showcase or performance event
-
Attend periodic Teaching Artist meetings and professional development learning opportunities
Qualifications:
-
BA or BFA in Performing Arts, Education, or Equivalent Experience
-
Ability to engage, challenge and interest people through communication and the arts
-
Ability to create safe, inclusive, supportive and creative environments for youth and adults
-
Desire to experiment with new techniques and capacity to adapt and teach them to others
-
Ability to work with students of diverse life experience
-
Capable of performing in busy non-traditional classroom settings
-
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with a proven ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities, plan ahead, anticipate and articulate program needs, and work independently while keeping open communication and status reports
-
Ability to problem-solve, be flexible, imaginative and innovative
-
Must provide own transportation (must show driver's license) (bike, car, public -competently able to navigate/plan if using public transportation)
