Hello Arts Lovers,
Today is the birthday of one of our most prominent pieces of public art, the rotting Tacoma Totem pole. It was erected in front of the Tacoma Hotel 110 years ago, May 21, 1903, one day before former President Theodore Roosevelt visited Tacoma on his tour of 17 Washington towns and cities. Now, as city leaders discuss the pole’s fate, they are largely ignorant of the scene and mood in the city as it was first hoisted into position. I hope you will read today’s important blog post on Good Life Northwest. It might make you want to add your own two cent’s worth to this discussion. To Let it Rot, or Not – Tacoma Totem Pole Controversy Nearly Ignores Presidential History
