NATURAL HISTORY OF THE SURREAL
SCULPTURE BY OTTO YOUNGER
August 10 through October 5, 2013
Handforth Gallery @ the Main Library
1102 Tacoma Avenue South
ARTIST'S RECEPTION: 2 - 4 P.M., SATURDAY, AUGUST 24
Tacoma artist Otto Youngers has a recognizable, almost gestural
approach to sculpting in wood, creating work that is playful
exaggeration and sharp social critique all at once. Inspired while
working in a warehouse setting by the ample supply of palette and
shipping crate woods, he developed a vocabulary of components made
with loose, iconic lines. His work is featured in a new exhibition at
the Handforth Gallery (and throughout the library) in downtown
Tacoma's Main Library through October 5. A reception and gallery
talk with the artist is scheduled for 2 - 4 p.m. on Saturday, August
24. More information is available on line at
www.tacomapubliclibrary.org or by telephoning the library at
243.292.2001.
Otto Youngers has a _Masters of Fine Arts in Sculpture _form the San
Francisco Art Institute, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting &
Sculpture from the University of Kansas. Most recently his work has
been featured in a solo exhibit at _Artcore _in Los Angeles,
California and at the POH CHANG ART GALLERY, INVITATIONAL EXHIBITION
& WORKSHOP, Bangkok, Thailand.
Gallery hours are from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesdays & Wednesdays;
and from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays.
