On behalf of the Consortium, Dr. Rankin and Ms. Birnie Danzker said: "This five-year initiative will provide an unprecedented level of recognition and support for Washington State artists. Not only will it make exceptional creative production possible, it will deepen relationships between artists and the communities in which they live." Among the initiatives of the Artist Trust | Frye Art Museum Consortium will be: The James W. Ray Distinguished Artist Award, which will recognize artists in all disciplines whose work demonstrates exceptional originality. One grant in the amount of $50,000 will be awarded annually from 2014 to 2018 with the intention of freeing artists to advance their creative work. Recipients will also benefit from flexible, individualized programs of advisory support and access to artist advisors, consultants, business and financial planning, and other training opportunities offered through Artist Trust's Creative Career Center. The James W. Ray Venture Project Award, which will support projects by artists in all disciplines whose work demonstrates exceptional originality. Two grants in the amount of $15,000 will be awarded annually from 2014 to 2018. The Raynier Foundation Exhibitions, which will showcase Washington State artists within a local and global context. Curated by the Frye Art Museum the exhibitions will take place at the Museum from 2014 to 2018 and will be documented in three Raynier Foundation Publications. "Both Artist Trust and the Frye Art Museum have demonstrated a commitment to Washington State artists and an ability to support them in innovative, community-enriching ways," said Ed Gardner, a trustee of The Raynier Institute & Foundation. "We are making this grant to honor the legacy of James Widener Ray, who was a passionate supporter of the arts. The Raynier Institute & Foundation is proud to support the work of this new consortium to ensure that Washington State's cultural community can thrive."
