I, Naturalist? Science Impacts of the Growing Global Community of Wildlife Observers

Morgan Heinzhttps://directory.tacoma.uw.edu/employee/hheinz, Dept of Sciences and Mathematics, UW Tacoma

Tuesday, April 14, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.

7 Seas Tacoma Brewery and Taproomhttps://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/www.7seasbrewing.com/__;!!K-Hz7m0Vt54!njuZYZlcS45N3yqBCkSPCthA6CwS_BEkzgZxdGTvTxk7aGaL3O8AsDg7vpRr7H4afY0rNNlSl0n4t6-GQ35iAlFR$ (2101 Jefferson Ave.)

Meet a colorful cast of characters that call the Pacific Northwest home, including colorful nudibranch sea slugs, creeping and intricate slime molds, miniscule but shockingly agile soil fauna, and the museum curators, high school students, and urban retirees who love them. Morgan will give an overview of scientific discoveries made with community-contributed wildlife sightings; this demonstration includes live microscope observations and hands-on interactivity with the free iNaturalist app to help you explore the living world wherever you are. The talk will end with an invitation to participate in the global City Nature Challenge at the end of April.
