[cid:638AD115-25AA-41C5-B066-37311153646B] FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Oct. 31, 2013 Contact: Margaret Thorndill Director of Public Events, mthorndill@pugetsound.edu, ph. 253.879.3555 Dawn Padula: An Evening of Vocal Works Dawn Padula, mezzo-soprano, and Tanya Stambuk, piano 7:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 22 TACOMA, Wash. – Dawn Padula, a powerful and emotive vocalist who interprets works ranging from opera and cabaret to Broadway and Baroque, will perform a solo concert at University of Puget Sound on Friday, Nov. 22, at 7:30 p.m. An Evening of Vocal Works will include music by German-born Baroque composer George Frideric Handel, Austria’s early Romanticist Franz Schubert, French Romantic composer Hector Berlioz, and American pianist and modern classical composer Lee Hoiby. The concert will be held in Schneebeck Concert Hall on campus. Ticket information is below. Padula, director of vocal studies at Puget Sound and a nationally acclaimed performer, will be accompanied by Tanya Stambuk on piano. For Handel’s cantata Lungi da voi, che siete poli, HVW 126c and Hoiby’s The Life of the Bee, Padula will be joined onstage by David Requiro on cello. For Schubert’s Ständchen, D. 889 she will be joined by the male vocalists in Puget Sound’s Voci d’Amici singing group. The mezzo-soprano’s career has included performances of many of the major operatic roles, solo concert repertoire, and reading and recording sessions with major American music organizations. She has won critical acclaim for her beautiful tone quality, musical interpretations, and characterizations. After a solo appearance with the Alamo City Men’s Chorale, the San Antonio Express-News wrote about her interpretation of Johannes Brahms’ Alto Rhapsody: “Padula brought heartfelt clarity to its soaring lines. … Her reading was emotional and effective.” The newspaper went on, “Padula revealed a delightful flair for cabaret style—and a gift for acting—in novelty songs by William Bolcom and Mary Rodgers. In addition she has performed extensively as a soloist in oratorios such as Handel’s Messiah and Israel in Egypt, and in several orchestral pieces, including the requiems of Mozart and Duruflé.
