Karin Williams is a graduate of California State University, served
as an art instructor at Tacoma Community College and as a
choreographer /designer for the South Bay Ballet Company. Her work
has been featured at the Pierce College Juried Art Competition
(2012), the Gallery at Tacoma Community College (2012) and the
December 2011 Proctor District December Invitational, as well as in
galleries in Oregon and California.
Of her "Bones" series she explains that the shape of bones has
fascinated her for the past 40 years. ""Originally, I used graphite
on paper, moved on to oils, mixed media, collage, paste chalk and,
finally, acrylic." Her work ranges from the fanciful to the highly
abstract, structured reality.
Williams "Within the ID" series explores her thoughts and feelings
about life, relationships and the hierarchy within various parts of
society. As with her choreography, she explained, she uses "strong
diagonals, subtle curving lines, dominant motifs intermingling with
lesser points, soft gestures and strong contrasts to serve as a
beginning language to describe the depth of feelings we posses, yet
the shallowness of what we are willing to share with the world."
Niki Williams is a recent immigrant from New Zealand. She began
painting in 1988. Williams paints to "capture any special beautiful
visual moment in the day which usually always seems to be so fleeting
.....it's all related to how the light falls on to any given thing...a
mountain for instance, a bowl of fruit, a landscape or anything else
that can make every day images so beautiful at any unexpected
moment."
The artists has a Diploma in Visual Communication Design at
Christchurch Institute of Technology, and studied at the New Zealand
Film and Television Training School. She spent a several years
working as a Set Painter and Props and Model Maker, working on both
local and international films
She has exhibited widely in New Zealand. Her work has recently been
shown at the Mandolin Café in Tacoma and Seattle's Mioposto Café.
