Jazz lovers, musicians and the general public are invited to hear Soloff, drummer Sylvia Cuenca, bassist Essiet Essiet and guitarist and Cornish College of The Arts educator Milo Petersen.
The performers will discuss jazz improvisation, play music and answer audience questions.
Each has long and deep roots in the music industry. Soloff’s credits include playing with Blood, Sweat & Tears, Tito Puente and the Manhattan Jazz Quintet. Essiet has played with Horizon, Art Blakey, Freddie Hubbard and the Blue Note All-Stars, while Sylvia Cuenca has performed with Joe Henderson and Clark Terry, among many other musicians.
Kareem Kandi, jazz band director at Pierce College Fort Steilacoom, arranged for the jazz artists to present the workshop. Kandi, a saxophonist and composer, also leads The Kareem Kandi Band, which plays throughout the Pacific Northwest
“For us to provide the community this opportunity to see musicians of this caliber for free is a huge deal,” Kandi said. “This will be a high quality workshop and concert.”
