Centerstage presents
IT’S ONLY ROCK AND SOUL
Seminal hits of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s
Run Dates: May 10th – 26th 2013; Press Night: Friday May 10th, 8pm
Centerstage
is pleased to announce its production of an original musical extravaganza: IT’S
ONLY ROCK AND SOUL which was created for anyone who ever loved great rock and
soul music…or more accurately …for anyone with a pulse. Centerstage Music
Director David Duvall has woven this web of classic songs into an irresistible
cocktail. Featuring the work of artists as diverse as Janis Joplin, the Beatles.
Elton John, Elvis and a hatful of Motown greats, IT’S ONLY ROCK AND SOUL is quite
simply a confection of the greatest rock and soul songs ever written.
PETE BEST & MICK FLEETWOOD
During the
run of IT’S ONLY ROCK AND SOUL, Centerstage will run an ongoing silent auction.
We have three autographed drumheads, signed by two of rock’s greatest drummers…and
one by the drummer who forever will be remembered only for missing the biggest
of all possible boats. Pete Best was the drummer who was fired by the Beatles
so that Ringo could come on board. Mick Fleetwood was the drummer for Fleetwood
Mac. The least well-known, but arguably the best of the three was Hal Blaine, who played for many rock superstars, including Elvis
Presley, John Denver, the Ronettes, Simon & Garfunkel, the Carpenters, the
Beach Boys, Nancy Sinatra, the wrecking Crew and the 5th Dimension.
And if patrons want to come back later in the run to up
their bids, their tickets are free…as long as they bring a couple of paying
customers back with them!
THE CAST
The cast features some of the Seattle region’s
premier musical artistes, including Jesse Smith, Stacy Calkins, DuWayne
Andrews, Trista Duval, Meg McLynn, Ashanti Mangum, Zack Wheeler and Bobby
Barnts. The show was conceived and directed by David Duvall, Centerstage’s resident
Music Director. Choreography by Katherine, Costumes by Rachel Wilkie and
Lighting by Amy Silveria.

CENTERSTAGE
is Federal Way’s
resident Theatre Company. It was founded in 1977 and for the past fourteen
years has produced shows at the Knutzen Family Theatre on the shores of Puget
Sound. Artistic Director Alan Bryce is committed to producing “innovative,
accomplished productions of popular work and for new work with the widest
possible audience appeal.” Hits like Always…Patsy
Cline or Ain’t Misbehavin’ fall
into the former category. Exciting new works include: a
musical version of the Dickens’ classic Nicholas Nickleby; Robin Hood
- the first full production of a Tom Meehan and Martin Charnin show; Alan
Bryce’s Nightmare of a Married Man which won the Tacoma News Tribune’s
“Best New Play” Award; and the pantomimes, including the wildly popular Sleeping Beauty, by Paul Hendy. Perhaps
the most ambitious project undertaken by Centerstage was the premier musical Carl
Sagan’s Contact,which also won
the News Tribune’s “Best New Play” award. In April 2009, the City of Federal Way
awarded Centerstage the contract to manage the Knutzen Family Theatre; saving
both the city and theatre company $60,000 per year.
