Tacoma, WA - The Sing-A-Long-A Sound of Musichttp://www.broadwaycenter.org/season/showDetails.asp?key=232 event has become a worldwide phenomenon, and it's coming to the Broadway Center's Pantages Theater on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at 3 p.m. The film will be followed by the 65th Annual Holiday Tree Lighting on the corner of 9th and Broadway. Film tickets are $9 and $16 and the tree lighting ceremony is a free community event.
The Sing-A-Long-A Sound of Musichttp://www.broadwaycenter.org/season/showDetails.asp?key=232 is a screening of the classic Julie Andrews film in full-screen Technicolor, complete with subtitles for the audience to sing along. The show will begin with a review of the complimentary 'magic moments pack', which contains various props and a songbook to be used at strategic points throughout the film.
Costumes are encouraged! The famous fancy-dress competition will bring audience members onto the stage after the movie to showcase their fantastic tailoring skills, nun habits and lederhosen. Creativity will count, and ticket vouchers will be awarded to the best dressed.
After a festival debut in May 1999, Sing-a-Long-a Sound of Music began running at the Prince Charles Cinema in London's West End (and has been there ever since). From there the program began its UK tour and now is touring to many cities around the world.
The Pantages lobby will open at 6:00 p.m. to the community for the 65th Annual holiday tree lighting. Complimentary hot cider will be served, Santa Claus will be making a special visit and the crowd will gather around the tree for the lighting ceremony and holiday group photo. The Pantages Theater has been the site for the City of Tacoma's holiday tree lighting ceremony since 1945 and originally began as a celebration of the end of WWII.
