Auburn Avenue Theater

Grease. Phantom of the Opera. Les Miserables. The Lion King. Spider-Man. Hollywood made them famous, but Broadway made them infamous. And Forbidden Broadway made them hilarious.

Take this insiders' look at the Great White Way, where not even the greats are safe from satire, coming to the Auburn Avenue Theater at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 26 and 27.

People make fun of their jobs all the time. Actors are no different, poking fun at the quirks of commercial theatre, though performers usually keep their parodies to themselves. Forbidden Broadway is what happens when they don't.

From Annie to Phantom to Wicked to Spider-Man, this fall-down funny, satirical roast of more than 30 Broadway hits features outrageous costumes, silly spoofs of the songs you know by heart and madcap impressions by a stellar cast.

Forbidden Broadwayhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HV8HHLNznyQ&feature=player_embedded has picked up nine Drama Desk Awards, a Special Tony for Excellence in Theatre, an Obie, a Lucille Lortel and a Drama League Award. The show, through its many editions, ran for 2,332 performances since 1982, receiving more than 9,000 performances world-wide and 11 "un-original" cast recordings.
