Broadway Center, with support from the Tacoma Philharmonic Endowment, will be honoring the winners of the Beatrice Herrmann Young Artist Competition<http://www.broadwaycenter.org/season/showDetails.asp?key=526> with a free ($5 suggested donation) recital at Theatre on the Square at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2013. Now in its sixth year, The Beatrice Herrmann Young Artists Competition<http://www.broadwaycenter.org/education/bhyac.asp> promotes excellence in musical performance, encourages young musicians in their pursuit of high artistic standards, and fosters a love for the performing arts in the community and throughout the Puget Sound region. The program is named to honor the memory of Beatrice Herrmann, a long-time supporter of the Tacoma Philharmonic<http://www.broadwaycenter.org/about/aboutTP.asp> and South Sound arts community. This year's selected winners include: Junior Division: First Place: Millicent T. McFall, Hamilton International Middle School, piano. Second Place: Pearl Lam, Lakeside School, piano. Senior Division: First Place: Meagan Yip, Jesuit High School, cello. Second Place: Sun Chang, Thomas Jefferson High School, piano. Young Artist Division: First Place: Andrew M. Friedman, University of Puget Sound, clarinet. Second Place: Hangeul Lee, Cornish College of the Arts, piano. Each winner received a monetary prize in addition to the opportunity to be featured in the recital.
