Gallery Three PRESENTS:
POETRY INSPIRED BY ART, (Ekphrastic) Juried Poetry Contest at Gallery Three in Puyallup. The poetry contest begins on First Thursday, August 1st and poetry submissions due by Saturday, August 24th. There will be a reading of the selected poetry at the Puyallup Library on Saturday, September 28th at 4:00PM to 6:00PM.
In cooperation with the Puyallup Library’s First Arts-Literary Festival, which has “FANTASY” as the theme, Gallery Three artists are sponsoring a poetry contest where everyone and anyone is invited to craft a poem of 50 lines or less in response to any work of art showing in the gallery from August 1th thru August 24th, which is the date the finished poems are due back to the gallery. Gallery Three artwork includes paintings, photographs, ceramics, jewelry, glass, fiber or any piece of art exhibited in Gallery 3 during this time.
There will be cash prizes, with $100 for the first place poem.
What IS Ekphrastic? It comes from the Greek word for “speak out,” and is a graphic description of a visual work of art, and in this case, it is a poem inspired by any piece of artwork in Gallery Three during the contest dates.

Starting date: First Thursday August 1, 2013.
Completed Poetry entries should be submitted by email to trindalove@yahoo.com by: Saturday, August 24th by midnight, or in person to Gallery Three by 4 PM August 24th on a CD. If submitting hard copies, please submit 2 of each poem, one with contact info, and one without name and contact info included for jurying.
Reception/Poetry Reading: September 28th at Puyallup Library, from 4pm to 6 pm.
RULES:
Entry Fee: $5.00 for a submission from 1-3 poems. Three poems maximum for submission. Fee payable in person at Gallery Three, cash or check with ID.
Poetry must be written during August 1, 2013 to August 24, 2013 in response to any artwork on display at Gallery 3 in Puyallup.
Length: Poems must be no longer than 50 lines, no minimum number of lines to qualify.
Poems must be on a word document (.doc ) with all contact information of top left of page. This includes: 1. Poet’s name; 2. Email address; 3. Phone number; and 4. Title of poem. This contact info will be deleted from judge’s copies of the poems.
Submission must include: 1. Type of artwork written about: Photograph, painting, necklace, sculpture, ceramic etc as applicable. 2. Title of artwork, if available. 3**. Name of the artist/artisan** who created the art piece; and 4. Title of the poem.
