The Tacoma Venue & Events Department is seeking to hire a full-time Booking Director. Under the direction of the Tacoma Venues and Events Director, this senior leadership position oversees the booking and event development for the Tacoma Dome and supports the booking and sales for the Greater Tacoma Convention Center and Historic Tacoma Theaters. This position serves as TVE's primary liaison in the entertainment industry and maintains strong relationships with agents, promoters, and artist managers.

Showcasing a flexible configuration that provides a full capacity of 23,000 as well as a flat floor capacity up to 15,000, the iconic Tacoma Dome is a high-demand venue for the largest names in the entertainment industry. The Greater Tacoma Convention Center is an award-winning venue with over 117,000 sq. ft. of flexible event space. Under TVE direction, the City owned historic theaters: the recently renovated Pantages, the Rialto, and Theater on the Square, are managed by ASM Global and feature a wide variety of arts and entertainment events.  Cheney Stadium, home to the AAA Tacoma Rainiers, and OL Reign and Tacoma Defiance football clubs, is managed by the Tacoma Rainiers.

The essential duties of this position include:

  •     Manage and oversee all recruitment booking, negotiation, and contracting of ticketed and non-ticketed events at the Tacoma Dome
    
  •     Establish and enhance an expansive network of event producers, promoters, agents, artist managers, and production personnel to ensure continuous and regular usage of the venues by a diverse range of performances and events
    
  •     Participate in industry organizations and attend applicable conferences to represent TVE & City of Tacoma and remain current on industry changes, trends, and challenges
    
  •     Draft and negotiate all booking proposals, contract provisions and deal terms.
    
  •     Serve as liaison between clients and other TVE departments to ensure event advance needs are being met (i.e. ticketing, marketing, event operations)
    
  •     Respond to promoters, talent agencies, and artist representatives with venue availability requests, and utilize VenueOps software to maintain an accurate booking calendar and maximize usage of the venue
    
  •     Produce weekly booking report for department Director with updates on event holds and confirmed/lost business
    
  •     Collaborate with Marketing department on the advertising and promotion of the Tacoma Dome as well as the backstage experience for artists and touring personnel
    
  •     Recommend, develop, and help produce internal special events
    
  •     Perform financial analysis, assist in the preparation of budget proposals, and structure event deals to ensure maximum value to the City of Tacoma
    
  •     Assist Finance Manager in coordinating settlement of events
    
  •     As a department leader, actively engage in working toward the goals of TVE's Racial Equity Action Plan, including those targeted toward event content and programming
    
  •     Provide supervision and leadership for TVE staff and contractors responsible for the City's Special Events Department
    
  •     Contribute to the development of both short and long term capital improvement plans to provide for the long term success of the venues
    
  •     Plan, develop, and implement venue policies and procedures in accordance with Federal, State, County, and City mandates, the TVE mission, and industry best practices
    
  •     Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in sales, business or public administration, or a related field or equivalent experience plus;

Five years progressive management experience in special event sales, booking, promoting, or talent buying for a multi-purpose venue or as an entertainment promoter or agent.

Work Hours:
Non-traditional work hours are required for this position. This position requires occasional non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Occasional travel is required (up to 5%)
Knowledge & Skills

  •     Knowledge of entertainment industry professionals related to all aspects of programming and booking for multiple capacities and performance types
    
  •     Strong preference for candidates with proven track record of building relationships with promoters, agents and artist management to generate business
    
  •     Strong foundation in all types of event deal structures, including straight rentals, co-promotion, and direct buying.
    
  •     Experience working with performing artists & production teams in a dynamic, fluid working environment
    
  •     Knowledge of entertainment programming trends and different genres: contemporary rock, classic rock, R&B, pop, comedy, family entertainment, etc.
    
  •     Strong background in negotiating and contracting
    
  •     Knowledge of principles and practices of event and venue marketing, sales, event ticketing, and terminology of the live entertainment industry
    
  •     Effective time management skills with ability to take initiative and manage multiple projects to meet tight deadlines
    
  •     Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, tact, and ability to interact with all levels of internal and external stakeholders
    
  •     Detail oriented with quick problem-solving capabilities in high-energy environments
    
  •     Maintain confidentiality of restricted information
