Saturday is the first day summer reading participants can report on
the books they are reading or sign up to join one of three clubs -
DIG INTO READING for kids; BENEATH THE SURFACE for teens, and
GROUNDBREAKING READS for adults Everyone completing the club will
have the opportunity to win free iPads. The program continues through

 LOCUST STREET TAXI

Saturday, June 15th @ 1 p.m.
Olympic Room, Main Library

LOCUST STREET TAXI is composed of three musical geniuses…and a

trombone player. Their live performances feature outstanding
musicianship, well-crafted, memorable songs and an exuberance on
stage which is infectious – in fact, they can make grandmothers
smile, children laugh, baby-boomers dance, college students spend
money, middle-school students take up trombone, sound engineers
remove their ear plugs, Seattleites move their heads slightly, and
swing-dancers dance in 7/4 time.

BAKRA BATA

Saturday, June 15 @ 11 a.m.
Wheelock Library
3722 North 26th Street

Saturday, June 15 @ 2 p.m.

Moore Library
215 South 56th Street

BAKRA BATA is a steel drum and percussion band that has created a

highly original and distinctly American style entertainment that
draws from the root traditions of trans-Atlantic cultures as they
have developed in Caribbean music. Steel drums are played in
combination with a fascinating variety of other Caribbean musical
instruments. The unusual instrumentation is a visual and aural
delight for audiences, and the repertoire, rich with original
material emphasizing rhythmic modes and dance beats, creates and
upbeat joyous ambiance.
