Hello Friends,
Science has always been at the heart of everything we do at Communities for a Healthy Bay. It’s what turns concern into action, guiding our patrols, informing environmental policy, and helping protect the waters and wildlife that define the South Sound.
But important questions remain unanswered:
• Why are our local beaches and waterways closed so often, and what can be done to prevent it?
• How does boat noise affect Southern Resident orcas and other marine mammals as they return to South Sound waters?
• Where are the greatest pollution risks still hiding, and how can better data drive accountability?

Today we’re launching Sound Science for a Sound Future, our year-end campaign to strengthen CHB’s scientific foundation and expand our capacity.
Your gift will support our efforts to answer theses questions by allowing:
• Collection of stronger, more consistent data to better understand water-quality issues and pollution sources.
• Expansion of collaborations with research and technology partners to track vessel noise, marine health, and emerging threats.
• Growth of on-the-water patrol capacity to share science-based education with boaters and communities throughout the South Sound.
With a biologist on staff who’s eager to gather new data, use new tools (like hydrophones to study vessel noise!), and help bring stronger, evidence-based solutions to protect our Sound, we have the expertise, vision, and determination — now we need your partnership to make it happen.

Every patrol, every data point, every answered question moves us closer to a Sound that’s healthier, more resilient, and better understood. Thank you for standing with us and for believing that sound science truly builds a sound future for all.
