[cid:image001.png@01DABD72.C97FFAA0] ANNIE WRIGHT ARTIST FELLOW About the Program Established in 2022, the Annie Wright Artist Fellowship is an annual program designed to uphold local artistry, facilitate artistic mentorship, and invite original ways of recognizing the institutional identity and legacy of Tacoma’s historic Annie Wright Schools. Tacoma-based visual artists working in all mediums are encouraged to apply. One application accepted per artist. Applicants must be willing to develop a new artwork inspired by knowledge of the Annie Wright Schools’ history, community, facility, traditions, and/or essence. After being welcomed to spend time on campus and/or connecting with members of the School’s community, the selected artist will generate an original, authentic interpretation. Eligibility Applicants must meet the following requirements: * Are a City of Tacoma resident * Are an active and practicing artist * Are an individual artist * Are 18 years or older * Will comply with the laws of Federal Government, State of Washington and City of Tacoma, including non-discrimination, Americans with Disabilities Act, and equal employment opportunities * Are NOT actively enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate arts degree program * Are NOT a previous recipient of the Annie Wright Artist Fellowship inside 10 years Funding Annie Wright Artist Fellow is awarded $4,000 and determined through an application process. A panel of AWS student and administrative jurists will review and score each application using the criteria outlined below. The award is all-inclusive toward the creation of a new piece, subsidizing any/all supplies, transportation, food, hospitality, research, and/or other resources needed to fulfill the program criteria. In addition to the commissioned work, the artist selected for funding will agree to be contracted for additional services, including participating in student artist mentorship sessions (1-2 sessions), attending a special exhibition (early November 2023), and jury facilitation for the incoming Fellow. Funding is issued in a 3-part payment phase between the months of August (½), September (½), to correspond with each of the program components and services. Specifications/Restrictions 2-D (restrictions: unframed, minimum size (10”x10’’) - maximum size (50”x50”) 3-D (restrictions: freestanding, independent of electricity, weather durable) Application Applications may be submitted through July 15, 2024. Applicants supply the following: * Artist resume or bio (300 words or less) * Previous work samples (up to 3 digital samples, each with up to 75 word descriptions) * Basic project information (medium, concept, inspiration, approach, in 300 words or less) * Basic contact information (email, address, phone) * Proof of residency (driver’s license, Washington State ID, housing lease, or current utility bill) * Budget page (projected supplies and/or other expenses) Evaluation Criteria Based on submitted work samples and project proposal: * Craftsmanship (50%) Demonstrated through the digital submission of 3 original work samples, adjudicators evaluate the presence of strong technical skills, thorough commitment to and exploration of their medium(s), and captivating delivery. * Authenticity (25%) Demonstrated through the submission of 3 original work samples and accompanying narratives, as well as project information, adjudicators evaluate the authenticity of connection to their subject(s), the ability to evoke a compelling theme or story, and demonstrate a commitment to exploring, embracing, and interpreting the essence of their subjects. * Feasibility (25%) Demonstrated through a narrative description or outline submitted with basic project information about medium, concept, inspiration, and approach. Adjudicators evaluate the feasibility of producing the project within the proposed budget, timeframe, materials or construction plan, construction location, and installation process.
