I am a PhD student and part of an interdisciplinary team from WSU's Puyallup Research and Extension Center who have been awarded funding for a pilot study looking at the relationship between phosphorus trends and landowner practices in the Puyallup River watershed. To help complete this study, we need volunteers who will let us take soil samples at their house or farm property. This is where YOU can come in! We are in need of volunteers who live within our study area (portions of the following zip codes: 98371, 98372, 98373, 98374, 98375, 98390, 98404, 98421, 98443, 98445, 98446) and you, or an adult representative of your choice, can be present during our soil sampling to provide access and answer a few questions. The process of sampling should take an hour or so but may take longer if your location is particularly large or complex. If you are unable to be one of our location volunteers, you can still help the study by passing along this email to any of your friends or family might be willing to participate!

If you choose to participate in the study, any and all information obtained will be aggregated as part of our study data and no identifying information about you or your location will be made public. In exchange for your participation, we will make your soil test results available to you once the results are back from the laboratory. This means free (to you) soil phosphorus testing!

We need lots of volunteers! But right now, we are looking at a few sample dates this week, weather permitting, during the afternoon of Thursday 3/31 and both the morning and afternoon of Friday 4/1. If you would like to volunteer, please let me know by emailing me ( nannette.huber@wsu.edumailto:nannette.huber@wsu.edu ) your address and we can coordinate details once I can verify that you are in our study area. If you would like to determine for yourself if you are in the study area, feel free to use our web mapping application http://www.arcgis.com/apps/Viewer/index.html?appid=ba39936d8bf248b7b3317e440a969067https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__www.arcgis.com_apps_Viewer_index.html-3Fappid-3Dba39936d8bf248b7b3317e440a969067&d=CwMFAg&c=C3yme8gMkxg_ihJNXS06ZyWk4EJm8LdrrvxQb-Je7sw&r=Jav5pVpsNEPTU0WAbFJ6XQ&m=6fb0FQ9pVoP3Mpdh79e4TW1PWaow4-XrH7ue0WMn2-w&s=UMiefrQg6KtxH8OB_HhMohimPqbNfg3DjVeo06FcqNI&e=

If you have questions or would like to participate but are unavailable during the currently scheduled time, please let me know by emailing me ( nannette.huber@wsu.edumailto:nannette.huber@wsu.edu ) and I will do my best to answer your questions and/or keep you informed of additional sampling dates as they become available. Soil sampling will be taking place, weather permitting, over the next few months so surely we can try to accommodate your schedule as much as possible.

Kindly,

Nannette Huber
