The Washington State Arts Commission (ArtsWA) seeks an executive
director to provide visionary leadership, scale up successful
initiatives, grow the agency's resources, and build the support of the
Governor, legislators, and elected officials. The Executive Director of
ArtsWA is appointed by the Governor.

arts leadership, innovative strategies, and commitment to public
benefit. We are now seeking an executive director to provide visionary
leadership, scale up successful initiatives, grow the agency's
resources, and build the support of the Governor, legislators, and
elected officials.

The Executive Director is directly responsible for agency leadership and
management. Responsibilities include:

  • Advancing the arts through programming, planning, coalitions and
    communications strategies.

  • Executive oversight of agency administration and operations,
    ensuring compliance and accountability.

  • Guiding, coordinating and supervising a staff of 12.

  • Developing and managing the agency's budget including state,
    federal, and private funds.

  •     Working with a 23-member appointed board.
    
  •     Representing ArtsWA locally, regionally, and nationally,
    

including with the Legislature, the National Endowment for the Arts, and
the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies.

To be successful in this position, we seek a skilled leader who
demonstrates the ability to build trust, confidence, and effective
partnerships and collaborations. We are looking for an individual who is
entrepreneurial and strategic; skilled in communications and public
relations; a competent manager and a visionary leader.

ArtsWA is leading the recruitment process and will provide three names
to Governor Jay Inslee, from which he will appoint the next Executive
Director.
