Arts & Economic Prosperity Study

[Picture of Chinese Reconciliation Project Foundation Moon Festival 2022]Art & Culture Support Business

Arts lovers in Tacoma are not just spectators - they're contributors! In 2022, they injected $75.9 million into our local economy, just by attending nonprofit arts and culture events.

Tacoma's nonprofit arts and culture audiences spend an average of $34.02 per person, per event (not including the cost of admission). This spending, which includes things like meals at local restaurants, local retail shopping, and transportation, makes a positive impact on our local economy. Your attendance at local arts and cultural events supports your favorite local spots and businesses!

You can read more about this study conducted by Americans for the Arts herehttps://www.cityoftacoma.org/government/city_departments/community_and_economic_development/office_of_arts/resources/arts___economic_prosperity.

Arts At the Armory Artist Highlights

[Freyja Knott]Freyja Knott

Freyja is a 9-year-old artist who has been creating art since she was a toddler. Her doodles on the wall became doodles on paper and eventually led to her love for acrylic paints. She also dabbles in watercolor and digital art, but her passion lies in acrylic on canvas. Freyja has sold paintings for the holidays, LGBTQI+ pride, and BLM, to name a few categories she loves to create within.

[JW Harrington]JW Harrington

JW Harrington enjoys learning what interpretations viewers take from his abstract and figurative paintings – it’s a major motivation of his work. In his figurative paintings that include people, he focuses on identifiably Black or Brown people, to help normalize brown faces and bodies in fine art. He also enjoys giving studio guests a chance to create their own expressions in paint.

[RLH Fine Art]Rachel Heimbigner

Rachel Heimbigner is an intuitive imaginative realist oil painter. Her work is based on narrative storytelling of her subconscious journey into metaphysical realms, centered in spiritual awakening. She creates her own oil paints and glazing mediums by mixing pure pigments and oil, just as the old masters. Methodically layering her colors and glazes to produce gem/like richness and a depth. Each stroke and color made with a sense of purpose.
